My name is Dr Roy J Hamilton and I am a GP Senior Partner with a specialist interest in diabetes and cardio-renal-metabolic health. My work spans clinical practice, education and service development, with a focus on translating evidence into practical, person-centred care.

I am an Honorary Lecturer and co-module lead on the University of Leicester Diabetes MSc programme, delivered in association with the Leicester Diabetes Centre. I hold a Master’s degree in Diabetes with distinction and am actively involved in training healthcare professionals across primary care.

In 2024, I was selected as a Diabetes UK Clinical Champion. My work focuses on improving CVRM outcomes, reducing health inequalities and supporting more joined-up approaches to long-term condition management.

I’m always keen to collaborate, share knowledge, and drive improvements in diabetes care.

📢 Keynote Speaking

I have a real passion for keynote speaking and regularly present at national conferences on diabetes and clinical medicine. Recently, I’ve had the opportunity to share my research and deliver talks at events such as Diabetes UK’s National Conference, Pulse Live 365, the Primary Care Diabetes Society, and the Diabetes Professional Care Conference, as well as live webinars for my nursing colleagues at RCNi. In addition to conference speaking, I’ve developed and presented a series of diabetes / CVRM webinars for my locality team and collaborate with the pharmaceutical industry, chairing sponsored meetings and delivering educational presentations both locally and nationally.

I am honoured to be selected as a Diabetes UK Clinical Champion. This prestigious role not only gives me the platform to explore innovative ways of tackling health inequalities in diabetes care, but it also helps me further develop as a leader in the field.

📚 Medical Education

I’m proud to be an Honorary Clinical Lecturer at the University of Leicester’s Diabetes Research Centre, where I support the team on the internationally recognised Diabetes MSc course as co-module lead.

As a Trainer & Mentor of >15yrs, I guide GPs, Advanced Practitioners, Foundation Year Doctors, and Pharmacists in their professional development.

My research interests are diabetes, physical activity, sedentary behaviour, and cardio-metabolic health.

I peer review articles for journals such as the Diabetic Medicine Journal.

My most recent research, “The Association Between Sitting Accumulation and Markers of Cardio-Metabolic Health in Individuals at High Risk of Type 2 Diabetes” was published in abstract form in the Diabetic Medicine Journal and Diabetes & Primary Care Journal, with special recognition from the PCDS Committee.
